Where To Live In The Arboretum As A Student – Nottingham

Where To Live In The Arboretum As A Student – Nottingham

This Green Flag award-winning park is located across from Nottingham Trent’s City Campus and provides the perfect escape from the city’s hustle and bustle without taking you too far out… because no one can be bothered with that. Though never confirmed, it is widely speculated that the park was J.M. Barrie’s inspiration for Neverland in Peter Pan, so be sure to check it out and decide for yourself! The park is a host to various events including the Bands in the Park festival which runs during the summer, it is bound to keep you entertained during your time in Notts. This guide will provide all the information necessary to decide which location around the Arboretum is perfect for you and all your needs.

Peel Street

Less than five minutes away from NTU and two minutes away from Wetherspoons, a savior for curing those horrible hangovers with their deliciously cheap full English brekky, this street provides wonderful views and a peaceful atmosphere. Considering it is a prime location, parking is available but may be limited; however there are great transport links to various parts of Nottingham, including NTU’s Brackenhurst and Clifton campuses. Within walking distance to Nottingham’s popular shopping district Old Market Square and intu Victoria Centre, you will never be bored but your student loan may pay for it. Being a road up from NTU’s Gill Street Halls means you’re just a few minutes away from a chilled night in with those new friends you made, or pre-drinks before a night out at Ocean.

Waverley Street

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Arboretum, Waverley Street provides excellent tram links, just in case you don’t feel like walking less than ten minutes to NTU on a rainy day or if you study at University of Nottingham. This is another popular student housing area, which is only ten minutes either way from local shopping amenities, so if you’re too broke for a Domino’s, a Sainsbury’s frozen pizza is within reach. With a tram line running through the street, the 12 minute ride will take you to Nottingham’s railway station so you can visit friends or family, and even straight to Old Market Square, which is popular for its many events, including The Beach during the summer.

Cromwell Street

Located next to Nottingham Cemetery, this location certainly isn’t as creepy as it sounds, even on those cold, dark nights. A short, peaceful walk through the cemetery will bring you straight into the middle of NTU’s campus. It’s also a few minutes’ walk from Alfreton Road, best known for its endless takeaway options, something you’ll be thankful for after a night out or during those brutal all nighters. As another popular student location, this one is perfect for those with cars as some properties have driveways and parking permits are easily available through the council.

Forest Grove & Newstead Grove

Nicely sandwiched between the Arboretum and the historic Rock Cemetery, this is another location great for any foodies out there as it is a short distance away from Mansfield Road, a life saver for those who don’t want pasta and a cob for the fourth day in a row. Also perfect for those who prefer to drive (or are lucky enough to have a car) as it is beside the A60. The location  means it is great for any University of Nottingham student as it’s only a 10 minute drive from town and campus, ideal for those who prefer to live closer to the city, because who wouldn’t?!

The Arboretum is picture-perfect for any student as it boasts a balance between the busy city and the more peaceful residential locations, because not all of us want to be kept up by Flat G’s nightly karaoke sesh, especially if they didn’t bother inviting you, how rude! With Nottingham always ranking in the top 10 for best student cities to live in the UK, the demand is high for a reason; don’t leave it late or live to regret it.
