The 10 Best Student Pubs in Cardiff

Welcome to the Diff, where the only thing we love more than Wales is drinking. Is there a better way to spend your day than chatting rubbish with your friends in the pub? I think not. Here are some of our favourite places to grab a drink.

1. The Taf
Describing themselves as ‘your friendly student local’, the drinks are seriously cheap aka the perfect place to pre if you’re sick of drinking ‘squash-ka’ out of a bottle since you spent all your money on Deliveroo. It’s also the best place to grab a beer and watch some sport on a Saturday afternoon (there’s plenty of seats).

2. Mackintosh

Located in the heart of the Cathays, this pub is the place to be in the summer. With a huge beer garden, what better spot to sit back and take in some of that limited Welsh sunshine.

3. The Flora

We’re talking cocktails people, more importantly £5 cocktails EVERYDAY. This cool, little bar has drinks deals on everyday so there is no excuse not to pop down and check it out!

4. The Woodville
Known locally as ‘The Woody’, this chilled out pub is located in the middle of the Cathays and is an ideal destination for a chilled drink with a couple of friends. Whether you fancy watching the sport or playing a little pool, this place has it all.

5. Gassy Jacks

Gassy’s is a great place to hang out with some friends whatever time of day! Described by one student as ‘The Mecca of Cathays’, by day this pub serves cold beers and yummy burgers and by night the party begins and drinks can be as little as £1 a pop!

6. The Blackweir Tavern

Feeling a little country? This tavern has great drinks at a reasonable price and it’s always busy! Come here for a boozy evening with friends and you won’t regret it!

7. Pen and wig

Boasting the best Sunday roast in Cardiff, this central pub is the perfect cure for your Saturday night debauchery. Pop in for their roast (you have to book) and by the time those roast potatoes are finished, you might even fancy another drink!

8. The College TavernGreat food, great drinks and great staff, The College Tavern ticks all the boxes for the perfect pup trip. With a great outdoor area, head here for a great evening out.

9. Heath
Heath has something for every person in your group, whether you’re hungry, thirsty or want to catch the rugby live! Head to the Heath and everyone’s happy.

10. Vulcan Lounge
Looking for pizza and a pint? Then search no more, my friend. Vulcan Lounge will fulfill all your dietary requirements and won’t break the bank! Bon appetite.
