Where to Live in Lenton as a Student
By Student Cribs | July 3, 2023 | Reading Time: 5 minutes
If you’re about to move to Nottingham or you’re thinking about it, it’d be foolish not to consider Lenton as the location of your new home. Lenton is highly popular amongst students due to its location, excellent transport links and close proximity to the University of Nottingham as well as the city, because of this it has become the perfect student destination. With so many students opting to live in Lenton, beware that if you choose elsewhere, your social life may suffer; as they say ‘Lenton means live with friends, Beeston means that you don’t’.
So, what is there to do in Lenton? How quickly can you get to Nottingham city centre? Most importantly, where is the best place in Lenton for me to live? If those are your questions, then we’ve got the answers.
Here is your Lenton student guide…
Price: ★★★
Quality of houses: ★★★
Travel Time to UoN: ★★★
Travel time to NTU: ★★★
Things to do: ★★
Grove Road, Sherwin Road & Trinity Avenue
Close to the Nottingham Castle Marina and Nottingham Canal, these locations are great for those who want to stay within Lenton but not be too close to everyone else, as we all love some space. With several buses going to UoN University Park Campus, you’ll be at your 11am lecture in less than 20 minutes, though as amazing as Nottingham’s transport may be, always be aware of rush hour as you won’t be the only student trying to get to uni.
Johnson Road, Dunlop Avenue & Lenton Boulevard
The Savoy Cinema may be the best part about living here. Why, you ask? The £4 student deal (well, £4.75 now, but still!), that’s why. It’s probably the only cinema in the country that offers tickets to students at the same price as children. So, if you want to continue procrastinating rather than getting on with that essay, then head on over and cheer yourself up with a movie. You’ll also be in close proximity to Derby Road which is one of the main roads connecting to the city centre. There’s also a Sainsbury’s Local just 2 minutes away, perfect for any last minute pre-drink prep.
Kimbolton Avenue, Rothesay Avenue, Derby Grove & Albert Grove
These are all notorious student locations, if you’ve made new friends at uni, chances are this is where they live. This means plenty of pre-drink options if you prefer not to host, perfect! If you’re grabbing the 35 or 36 bus to uni, hop off at Wollaton Park Gates to pay a visit to the famous Wollaton Park, you won’t regret it. Great for a picnic after a long day at the library and even better for picture opportunities outside Wollaton Hall (or Wayne Manor as it’s better known as) and who knows, you may even spot Batman himself, imagine the Instagram opportunities! With a Tesco, Domino’s and a Wok&Go nearby, you’re really spoilt for choice. Kimbolton (fondly known as Kimbo) has been described as the heart of Lenton, so what are you waiting for?
Douglas Road & Seely Road
Best for its transport links, you could find yourself Snapchatting a picture of your cheeky Nando’s at the city centre within 12 minutes. Right in between the city and UoN, as well as Derby Road and Ilkeston Road, you get the option of two bus routes to your destination. With a Sainsbury’s and Boots nearby and popular pub The Organ Grinder less than 10 minutes away, you’ve basically got everything you need.
So no matter what, there’s no doubt that Lenton is the place to be. It may not be the prettiest looking or closest to your uni, but at least you know that while you’re living in Lenton you’ll be at the centre of student life In Nottingham, without paying the price of a City Centre pad.
