10 THINGS EVERY LEEDS STUDENT MUST DO
By Student Cribs | February 23, 2024 | Reading Time: 5 minutes
As a student at the University of Leeds, you have the opportunity to explore one of the UK’s most vibrant cities. Your time at university can be the best years of your life however, once you leave your university days behind real life kicks in and you don’t have as much time (or excuse) to try new things. That’s why it’s important to make the most of your time as a student studying in Leeds. From museums and galleries, to parks and nightlife, there’s always something to for students in Leeds.
So here are the Top 10 Things Every Leeds Student Must Do before they enter the working world!
Every student has heard about the legendary Otley Run and if you haven’t completed it at least once before you graduate…. you might want to rethink your time as a student in Leeds. The Otley Run is a pub crawl with anywhere between 11-19 bars! Fancy dress is a MUST (there is something very special about seeing a minion and an alien doing shots together at the bar).

Leeds Varsity
Any student from Leeds can tell you about the rivalry between Leeds Beckett University and the University of Leeds. Although the varsity events are sports based it’s a great day out to get involved in. The event includes over 60 fixtures across 25 sports with the final sporting day being the largest!

Junkyard golf located in the Light is a great night out for students. With three mashed-up crazy golf courses, UV lights, music, and bars on sight, it’s a great way to spend your night (or to start it!). What’s even better is students get 50% off!

Leeds Christmas Market
The Leeds Christmas markets attract hundreds of people yearly. They also host some great events which take place in the city centre including the Millennium Square Ice Rink and the Corn Exchange Christmas Market.

Socials
Socials are the best way to get out and meet new people. University is full of chances to make friends and socials can give you that extra nudge. University can be intense so joining a society that you are passionate about (or just enjoy spending your free time doing) is a great way to unwind and have fun with friends.
Headingley
With several bars, pubs, and restaurants (including the beloved Wetherspoons) Headingley is a popular place for students to grab a drink with friends. From Karaoke at Headingley Taps to a pub quiz at The Box, Headingley has lots to offer for a cheap night out and host to some of the best student nights in Leeds.

Greek Street
Greek Street is another great and popular place for Leeds students to enjoy a night out. Although the bars are a little more on the expensive side with bars such as The Alchemist, Bar Soba, Lost and Found, you can still grab some student deals!
This museum is a must-see for history enthusiasts and those interested in arms and armour. The museum is the home of the UK’s national collection of arms and armour claiming to be the oldest museum in the UK and one of the oldest in the world. Even if this doesn’t ordinarily take your interest, you should still give it a go as students go completely free!

Festivals
Leeds has many festivals going on throughout the year. From the famous Leeds Festival to Live at Leeds in the park, there are tons to get involved in and have a good time with friends.

Catch a film at one of the cosiest cinemas in Leeds. The Hyde Park Picture House is an independent cinema which has been showing films since 1914. With agreeable prices and a great selection of arthouse and independent films, this Picture House is sure to lure you in.

At Leeds, you will find it hard to be bored with so much to do and see. Whether you’re interested in history or just having a good time, there’s something for everyone in this fantastic city. So, get out, see the city and have fun!
