Celebrating Christmas in Cardiff as a Student

Still not feeling the Christmas spirit just yet? Then why not give these festive outings in Cardiff a try and it’s sure to get you feeling less like the Grinch! But don’t wait too long, events like these won’t hang around forever so you better get your skates on…

Ice Skating:

… Speaking of skates, is there anything more festive than skidding around on the ice and clutching onto your partner for dear life? I think not. The skating rink is located just outside the centre of town and is at the heart of the annual Winter Wonderland. This sheltered ice rink means you can enjoy skating without worrying about the weather, but make sure to book your spot as the rink tends to get pretty busy!

Winter Wonderland:

If ice skating isn’t really your thing then Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland has plenty of other events to offer on a more stable ground. If you’re one for heights than take a trip on the wheel and enjoy the views of Cardiff. Have a wander around the alpine village where food and drinks are served, or take your drink to the authentic bierkeller. Although, maybe keep the heavy drinking until after the rides at the funfair – that will never end well!

Christmas Market:

Get yourself down to the Christmas Market and enjoy a mulled wine and some festive nuts as you wander around these cosy little cabins. You can pick up some last minute Christmas presents here or just have a browse! This market is located in the city centre and if you haven’t already been then make sure you take a look – it closes on the 23rd December so there’s still time enjoy this annual market!

Visit Cardiff Castle:

During the festive period, Cardiff Castle is transformed with beautiful lights and decorations and really makes a statement in the city. Not only this, but Santa’s Grotto is located in the heart of the castle, which makes it magical for any of your smaller family members. After the visit to Santa, the tickets enable you to take the Christmas trail, have a look inside the castle grounds, take part in the Christmas activities and enjoy special offers in cafe! What more could you want?

Cardiff Nightlife:

As soon as the festive period hits Cardiff, it hits the nightlife even harder. Every bar and club in the city really takes the Christmas theme on board – whether it’s the festive drinks menu, the decorations or themed event nights, there’s so many more reasons to head out! Get your best Christmas outfit on and stretch the last of your student budget on a final night out with your uni friends!

Christmas meal with uni friends:

Arranging a Christmas meal for your housemates is good for so many reasons! It’s the last time (or maybe the first time) you can get all your friends around the table before Christmas, it really gets you in the festive spirit, and most importantly – the food! Get your Christmas jumpers on, get the roasties in the oven and get ready for the inevitable food coma after… before eventually heading out on the town!
