Top 10 restaurants for Cardiff Students

Finding the best place to eat out can be difficult as students. Getting the combination of good and affordable food can be difficult, so we’ve compiled a list of great restaurants that offer student discounts and a place for a great evening out!

1)      Irie shack:

If you fancy some tasty Caribbean cuisine, great cocktails and a good atmosphere then head to Irie Shack! The restaurant is in Cathays and offers 2-4-1 on cocktails everyday until 7pm then 9pm until close with live music events hosted regularly. Perfect for birthday celebrations, family events and it also makes a change from pre-drinking at your mates house a cheap bottle of Zinfandel!

2)      Bagel and Burger:

Also located in the Cathays area, Bagel and Burger offers a cheaper alternative to a more gourmet take out but a step up from Burger King! Not only are the burgers great, they offer milkshakes with your favourite chocolate treats like Oreo, Malteser and Mars Bar. The restaurant is available on Deliveroo so it’s the perfect option for those hungover days with your housemates!

3)      The Taf:

Definitely keep this place in mind when you’re in between lectures and in need of something to keep you going. Maybe not the best place to take your crush if you’re trying to impress, but they sure know how to feed a student!

4)      The Stag:

A small café but packs a punch with an impressive selection of food including the traditional ‘stag’ breakfast, featuring everything you’d want in an English fry up. Also on the menu are delicious halloumi and chicken burgers, sandwiches and fries and all the avocado you could wish for!

5)      Wiwo:

Voted best takeaway in Cardiff in 2016, this Asian restaurant is a must try! It offers a great student lunchtime deal with its famous noodle box – for only £3.90! Its quick, fresh and tasty which could make a change to your usual takeout options…

6)      Coco Gelato:

Fancy something sweet? Then this is the place for you! If you’ve got a sweet tooth then welcome to heaven as this place offers an endless variety of gelatos, waffles, crepes, sundaes and milkshakes – there’s sure to be something to tickle your fancy! Plus, all the desserts are definitely Instagram worthy so get snappy away!

7)      Eds Diner:

You’ll find this authentic American diner on the ground floor of St.David’s shopping centre. The restaurant is complete with classic diner seats and iconic 50’s music! These 50’s vibes will make for a different eating experience with great all American burgers, hot dogs and milkshakes!

8)      Sorrento’s:

Another great local restaurant in Cathays serves the perfect brunch food and drinks that’ll definitely ease that hangover! The food is fairly priced so it’s great for students and delivery is fast and easy – so make sure you give Sorrento’s a go!

9)      Ask Italian:

We’re all familiar with this Italian favourite, but it’s now easier to be tempted for a meal out with their great offers! The restaurant provides students with 40% off on Monday and Tuesday and 25% off on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday (with nus extra cards or by using the Unidays app).

10)   Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK):

If you fancy stepping up your burger game and opting for something a little more indulgent then head to Gourmet Kitchen Burger! These handcrafted and delicious burgers will be loved by everyone – not only that but they also offer students 25% off so that cheat meal is looking even more tempting!
